Virtual Check-In 5:50pm (MST)

The Vivace Book Club will meet on January 16 to discuss Maria Callas Remembered: An Intimate Portrait of the Private Callas by Nadia Stancioff. Maria Callas’s dear friend shares her personal memories of the woman who dazzled the opera world but remained at heart a woman who wanted most to be respected and loved for her true self.

The facilitator for the evening is Kathleen Wilson, who earned a doctorate in voice pedagogy from Columbia University and is a member of the Santa Fe Opera Guild Board.

The book discussion will be held via Zoom. The event is free, but you must register to attend. Registration will close at noon on January 16, 2024.

Nadia Stancioff was Maria Callas's friend during the diva's unhappy final years, starting as a publicist for Callas's film of the opera, Medea. Interviewing people who had known her earlier, Stancioff sought to explore the woman from the inside - "Maria," not "Callas." In her book, Maria Callas Remembered: An Intimate Portrait of the Private Callas, she sought not to rehash the sensational and salacious elements of the Diva’s life, but rather provide a different perspective of the woman behind a tumultuous life played out on the world stage. A reviewer of her book stated “Stancioff adds the insights of Maria's friends, colleagues, and family. The figure that emerges is intriguing, infuriating, mystifying - and endlessly fascinating.”

We also would like to develop a preliminary waiting list from those of you who would be interested in traveling with us.

Please send us a note to: [email protected] with your full name, phone and email address stating your potential interest.

Thank You.

Thank you for your interest in the Guild Travel Club.  After offering Opera experiences via Road Scholar, it is clear that the costs for these trips are prohibitive for most persons. So, we have arranged for a group sales discounted Opera tickets  at the Santa Fe Opera in July.  The Guild will register you  and request the deposits required by the Opera.  You will be responsible for all other arrangements like airfare, hotel, rental car, etc.
