Who We Are

The Chapala Opera Guild is the only dedicated Opera Guilds in Western Mexico whose mission is to support the Met Opera Live HD programs in the Lake Chapala market area.

Short term, we seek a local venue with adequate seating, parking, and facilities to support the Met Live HD transmissions. We plan to grow in membership and sponsors to offer opera education and provide access to other forms of Opera information and entertainment. We intend to accomplish this through volunteering, fundraising, and community activities.

Long term, we seek to secure a venue facility with a long-term lease. Ideally, we would be given a home or commercial space via a bequest or gift from a generous resident or business. The Chapala Opera Guild (COG) is under the direction of an all-volunteer Board of Directors. It operates under the non-profit approval of the Mexican Government's SAT, an Associacion Civil – A.C. – whose legally registered official name is "Amigos de Chapala Opera, A.C."

What We Do

Everything we do is with our members in mind. With the help of our dedicated volunteers, we offer both educational and social events throughout the year. Our primary Opera event is the showing of the Met.

Live HD transmissions and recordings are offered through our current host venue. We are excited and appreciate the efforts of The Lakeside Little Theatre – LLT to present the '23/'24 Met Opera HD Live series in their beautiful building and theater.

Our events are designed for both the opera-curious and seasoned aficionados. Our recurring social events include the Annual Luncheon, Quarterly Information Meetings, Opera travel trips, and the Annual Meeting. Our opera-related virtual guest lectures occur on our website throughout the year, while the Santa Fe Opera Virtual Book Club meets periodically.

We welcome everyone with an interest in Opera and camaraderie to join us.
